Over the next few weeks, we will be sharing some of our online shopping experience and observations with Gmarket or Qoo10.

Gmarket Singapore site www.gmarket.com.sg was launched in Nov 2008, in association with Yahoo! SEA.

Gmarket ValuesGiosis Gmarket International, or what we commonly refer to as Giosis Gmarket, is founded as a joint venture with the world’s largest e-commerce service provider, eBay, in April 2010.

With the company’s Mission,
to be “A True Asian Company with Global Competitiveness“, to build a dynamic Pan Asia e-Marketplace.

The company values are

Goods – to enable customers to trade Goods in the most convenient and efficient manner.

Good – Deliver Good values to customers and society

Global – Build a Dynamic Global e-commerce network

Green – Committed to minimise wastes in commerce flow for a Green World
Do note that Gmarket in Korea and Giosis Gmarket in South East Asia are actually two different companies. Gmarket Korea is under eBay’s control while Giosis Gmarket is a joint-venture with eBay to build up the business in this region.

From a reported daily transaction of over 10,000 in the Singapore site for March 2011, it rose up to over 20,000 per day in December 2011 with a reported monthly business amount of over S$6,000,000 (6 Million Singapore Dollars!!). They also have a goal to build this Pan Asia Leading e-Markeplace to the rank of being the 3rd biggest Gross Merchandise Volume (GMV) in Asia by 2015 in more than 5 countries (China, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia) – source: Giosis Gmarket International Pte. Ltd. Company Profile February, 2012

On 2nd May 2012., this familiar e-commerce giant will be rebranded to Qoo10 in Singapore, Japan, Malaysia and Indonesia. There will only be one “Gmarket” remaining, that is Gmarket Korea.

The rebranding enables the company to grow globally and remain relevant to the market. Other than a change of brand name, the structure of the company still remains the same.

The website can also be customised to suit your needs on how it looks, and if you are annoyed by the fast and flashy graphics at their website, you can simply stop the animated images from flashing by clicking on the “Stop Flash” at their sidebar.

Note : The “Stop Flash” function is no longer available. Most of the images at the website are no longer animated upon load now

However, do be warned that the website is REALLY loaded with lots of nice and colourful photographs. If you are working in some busy office environment, try not to do your shopping or “window browsing” during office hour. There is high chance that you will attract some attention and your curious colleagues will come crowd around your computer screen!

If you really need to check out Gmarket’s latest deal during office hours, perhaps going to their FaceBook page could satisfy your crave.

  5. The new gmarket, now branded as q0010 has become unsatisfying recently with changes listed below. What irks me is that the changes happened suddenly with my coupons becoming lesser in value without any announcements ofany sort.1) shipping coupons which I exchanged with 15 stamps used to be a double discount voucher ,not anymore. Enquiries with customer service came to a naught as they vicariously denied that shipping coupons was NEVER a double discount voucher . I challenged them to go through my purchase account to verify this and the whole matter came to an abrupt end , no explanations given.2) on the 20/8/2012- the MasterCard double discount voucher that I won the day before was still valid as a double discount voucher also mysteriously turned into a single discount voucher…in the afternoon..shopping has been quite fun withbthese cheap thrill vouchers but not any longer. I hate the changes that caught my by surprise…Q0010 you need to work harder to win back your customers..
